Carmel Terminal

The Carmel Terminal. the largest, most advanced and "greenest" container terminal in Israel, is a central element in the achievement of the company's vision and the placing of Haifa on the same level as the world's most advanced ports.
The modern terminal, which was inaugurated in 2010 and started operations full operation in 2011, has a potential shipping rate of a million TEU a year.  Thus the terminal has, in effect, doubled Haifa Port's ability to move containers and a service that is both efficient and fast, dramatically cutting the waiting time of container ships arriving at the port.

A water depth of 15.5 meters the entire length of the terminal, along with advanced infrastructure and equipment, including 6 Super Post Panamax Gantry Cranes (SPP) (the most advanced in the world), allow for fast and efficient treatment of container ships with a width of up to 18 containers.  The gantry cranes, with a lifting capacity of two containers with a weight of 35 tons simultaneously, allow Haifa port to significantly increase its output.

The terminal's length - 700 meters - allows for the simultaneous loading/unloading of two, modern container ships with a shipping capacity of between 8,000 - 10,000 TEU.

Carmel Terminal's gantry cranes use twin lift spreaders which allow for the transportation of two, 20 foot containers, side by side.

The Carmel terminal has a specialized storage area for containers with hazardous materials.  This includes a concrete container storage surface with a drainage system suited for hazardous material storage and a sensor system to identify any leakage of hazardous materials and sound an alert.

As part of the 2012 investment budget, the company's Board of Directors authorized the purchase of an additional gantry crane, which will bring the total to 7, for the Carmel terminal.
